Luella, mother to Eleanor Porter, was widowed in 1876 and subsequently lived with her only daughter, Eleanor — under the same roof for more than forty years.
Even after Eleanor’s marriage to John Lyman Porter in 1892, Luella resided with the couple — until her death in 1917.
(We were unable to locate Luella’s resting place at Glenview Cemetery.)
This item reveals much about Eleanor’s unfortunate father and how, after his untimely passing, Luella provided for her two young children by giving art lessons. It nicely describes EHP’s career as a singer and author.
This obituary turned up in June 2020 — ten years after the EHP Project began: Thanks to Mark Hardy, distant relation to Eleanor Porter and indomitable researcher. He has upset the apple cart more than a few times with discoveries like this … and sent me back to rewrite the darn story time after time!
